I am Reva Cuthbertson, and fitness is my passion! My philosophy lies in functional fitness. Functional fitness includes nutrition and physical exercise that allows one to prepare for the activities of everyday life. It means to have the strength, agility, and mobility to live independently. Though, there are many on the Autism Spectrum for whom these activities are challenging. My son is on the autism spectrum, which provides some challenges. For a long time, I have been actively seeking a fitness program that will help him live a full and independent life. After taking the Certified Functional Strength Coach Certification I became increasingly aware that everyone can benefit from functional training. Functional training can be adapted for anyone. It is all about meeting clients where they are at and teaching them the basics of human movement. Progress may look a little different for some, but all will benefit from a functional training program.

Each session begins with warm-up exercises that prepare the body for a workout and also target mobility, balance and stability. Some of the exercises include hurdle steps, ladder drills, rope swings, etc.
After the warm-up we move to upper and lower body strength exercises that also target core strength. Exercises include squats, shoulder and chest press, band pulls, etc.
Each session finishes with cardiovascular conditioning and power exercises that also target mobility and agility. As time permits, we review some favorite activity or bowl with a Dynamax ball and cones.
